About Us

Established in 2009, the FFNRC is a non-profit, community organization funded by the government of Manitoba through its Neighbourhoods Alive! program. Our mandate is to enhance the well-being of our community by empowering citizens, improving neighbourhoods, fostering community spirit, and building the capacity of community organizations and residents.

History:

Neighbourhoods Alive! (NA!) was launched by the government of Manitoba in 2000, initially to promote renewal in certain inner-city neighbourhoods in Winnipeg, Brandon, and Thompson. It is a long-term social and economic development strategy that supports community-driven revitalization activities with a focus on housing, education, recreation, safety and crime prevention.

In 2009, Neighbourhoods Alive! was expanded to Flin Flon and four other communities. To launch the program here, NA! assisted in the organization of an Interim Advisory Committee (IAC) composed of residents of Flin Flon already active in community groups. This IAC engaged in an extensive community consultation process to identify key community priorities and then developed a Neighbourhood Renewal Plan designed to address them through the application of Community Economic Development principles. These priorities can be found by clicking on our "strategic goals" tab or on the link below.

Our strategic goals

On January 14, 2009 the Flin Flon Neighbourhood Revitalization Corporation (FFNRC) was incorporated with members of the Interim Advisory Committee forming the first Board of Directors. Neighbourhoods Alive!, now a department of Manitoba Housing and Community Development, currently provides funding for the operation of the FFNRC. Below is a link to our current Board of Directors.
